How to Create an Enrichment Booklet
little indestructible books of truth and beauty
This will be my sixth year creating our own children's Sunday school curriculum. The enrichment booklet is one of my favorite pieces of our class time. These booklets contain our hymns and scripture memorization/recitation passages for the school year. We keep classroom copies and send booklets home for families to use. They are printed on heavy paper and remain in great condition all year long.
I do not sell these. The idea is not original to me and I am happy to help others freely as I have been helped in the past. By making your own, you can personalize it and order your own copies from a print shop.
First, search for a magazine template at Canva.com. I chose a fashion magazine template. You can use their free trial for premium to access the nicer templates.
Next create your cover, pages for hymns and passages, and a back cover. I include an introduction on how these booklets are used in class and how they can be used at home. I also include a note about public domain, bible version, church copyright license number, etc.
Search for quality public domain art and save it to your computer. I look for beautiful art to compliment the hymns or bible passages. It's easy to upload the art into Canva if you click on “uploads” on the left side of your project. From there, just drag and resize onto the pages.
Also include page numbers, dates, and cite the source of the artwork. I leave the back cover blank except for our church name and address. Mine is 16 pages total.
When finished, download the document to your computer as a high quality pdf. From there upload the pdf to your print shop order.
I request a booklet in color, printed both sides, 100# coated cover matte, 8.5 × 11 (full sheet), print to the edge of page, collated, booklet stitching bindery, no hole drilling. I order from theprintingtrain.com. I do not have a local print shop and they were recommended to me by a friend. They do excellent work and ship fast. I order from them every year.
We cover one hymn and one scripture passage every six weeks. I put the hymn on the left page and the scripture passage on the right page. Here is a sampling of what we've covered:
Hymns:

I love this so much. I want to make something like this for my 9th grade Bible class - maybe next year.
This is such a great idea! Thanks for sharing. 😊
